Samuel K. McInteer

Samuel “Sam” K. McInteer, 71, of Columbus, passed away at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Sam was born November 21, 1949, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Hershell Ray and Dorothy Mae Pattingill McInteer. On September 13, 1970, he married Patricia L. Bailey.

Mr. McInteer retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2001 after 31 years of service. He loved sports; wrestling, baseball, NASCAR-especially #24, Jeff Gordon and basketball. Sam was an avid I.U. fan and Indianapolis Colts fan. He coached little league baseball for several years and was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church. Attending auctions and spending time with his family were among his favorite things to do. Sam will be remembered for his willingness to help others in any way that he could as he never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia “Pat”; sons, Samuel Joseph “Joe” (Amy) McInteer of Franklin, Jeffrey “Jeff” (Mary) McInteer of Indianapolis, Jerry McInteer of Columbus; grandchildren, Kenton McInteer, Emily, Megan and Carson Kleinhelter, Brent McInteer, Josh Harber, Tori (Chris) Burchett, Sarah (Corbin) Williams, Cory McInteer, Shyanne McInteer; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy McInteer of Mesa, Arizona; sisters, Carolyn (John) Baldwin, Betty (Bill) Rutan of North Vernon, Debbie Hatcher of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth McInteer, James Michael “Stumpy” McInteer, Ronnie Estes and sister, Donna Gephart.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Adam Carrigan officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Due to Pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 50 people in our funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.

Burial will be Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
