Verna Mae Roberts

Verna Mae Roberts, 81, of Franklin, died at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Community South Hospital in Greenwood.Verna was born Liberty, Kentucky, the daughter of Lillie Myrtle DeHart Mason and Thomas Bailey Washington Mason. She married Thomas Charles Roberts on December 26, 1953.He preceded her in death on January11,2016.Verna was a member of the Liberty Apostolic Church in Liberty, Kentucky. It was there she began her deep roots in Pentecost standing strong for the Oneness of God. It was at this same church she received the Holy Ghost at the age of twenty. She attended the Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle for 23 years. Verna was the sweetest mother. She loved her children and raised them in the truth and fear of God. Having four boys, she was a very good disciplinarian, chastising them when it was needed. According to them, this was often and she was very successful in raising four good men. Verna was pleased to be a farmer’s wife and homemaker, devoting all her time to family and church. She was known for her signature biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, beans n’ cornbread and that all famous, cast iron skillet. She was an excellent cook and prided herself in cooking big meals and you never went away hungry. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at The Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle with the Rev. Nathan Goen officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, at the Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be at RestHavenCemetery.Memorials may be made to the Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle for the Sunday SchoolProgram.Survivors include sons, Gregory (Amanda) Roberts of Navarre, Fl, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Roberts of Edinburgh, Jimmy (Hayley) Roberts of Hope, and Steve Roberts of Flat Rock. Grandchildren, Christopher (Symphanee) Hornsby, Kylee (Austin) Bailey, Ryan Vanbuskirk, Hillary Martinez, Mataeya (Devin) Deeds, Steven Roberts Jr., Joshua Roberts, Tanner Walls, Katie Roberts, Isaac Roberts, Faith Roberts, Charlie Roberts, Elijah Roberts, and Charli Mae Roberts. Great-Grandchildren, Brooklynn Bailey, Gatlynn Deeds, Chanel Hornsby, Aleah Bailey, Wyatt Hornsby, Barrett Deeds, Bronwyn Huber, Irelynn Hornsby and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Cathy Roberts; brothers, Woodrow Mason, Alfred Mason, and John Mason; sisters, Rosalie Mason and Mable Morgan.
