Oran “Butch” Abbett, Jr., 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:04 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Butch was born May 19, 1956, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Oran Kenneth and Mary Virginia Taulman Abbett, Sr. Mr. Abbett served in the United States Army stationed in Germany from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1978. He retired from Arvin Industries after 28 years of service and Aisin USA after 15 years of service. Butch loved the outdoors and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Purdue basketball fan and also loved sitting around bonfires. Working on lawn mowers was one of his favorite things to do in his spare time. Butch will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him best. Survivors include his children, Amanda (Tanner) Resch of North Vernon, Jason Mace of Seymour; grandchildren, Greyson Resch, Zoey Kiefer, Taylor Hartwell; siblings, Beverly Abbett, Kate (Jack) Gray, both of Edinburgh, James Abbett of Columbus, Sue Capps of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor LaBanon Bingham officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time-of-service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
