John W. Moore Jr M-H-39-4

John W Moore, Jr. lost his battle with Parkinson's on the evening of March 25, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on February 4, 1940, to Ruth and John W. Moore. He attended Edinburgh and Nineveh High Schools, graduating in 1958. After school, John served in the United States Army. He was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base where he worked as an Air Traffic Control Operator. During his time in Alaska, John was the top of his class at Fort Richardson's Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and awarded Soldier of the year. Unit Commander, Major L.D. Hanney stated the achievement, "Attested to the intelligence, military proficiency, dedication to duty, and high character" of Specialist Moore. After his military service, John attended classes at Franklin College, Brigham Young University and IUPUI and began his career at Eli Lilly. John worked his way up to become Manager of the Engineering and Maintenance at the Central Plant of the Lilly Technology Center, retiring in 2001 after 39 years with the company. John loved the time spent involved in Quarter Midget and Midget racing with his children for many years and enjoyed coaching basketball and baseball at the Franklin Boy's Club. He and his wife traveled extensively, visiting 36 countries and took his family along on several vacations and cruises. John and his wife were doting grandparents and enjoyed most weekends with family and attending grandchildren's sporting events, plays and performances. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma (Bryant), three children, Jon Eric Moore of Edinburgh, Jami Moore of Indianapolis, and David (Raeann) Moore of Franklin. Grandchildren, Shane (Jessie) Moore of the Outer Banks, Tyler Moore of Franklin, Garrett Snyder of Franklin, and Keeley (Augustine) Dinn of California. Great Grandchildren, Fiona and Rowan Moore and Estelle and Celine Torres. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Moore. John’s laughter was contagious and the love he had for his family knew no bounds. He is dearly loved, sorely missed and fondly remembered by us all. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin.  A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, Indiana.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Johnson County, 3827 N.
